Flying Horseman returns with 'Engines'

After five years of silence and with a renewed lineup, Flying Horseman is spreading its wings once again. Engines will be released as the first single from the upcoming album Anaesthesia—an urgent and passionate work filled with intelligent rock 'n' roll, misty psychedelia, and cosmic folk.

Engines is a fever dream about oppression. It’s a song about getting lost in a world controlled by dark forces; about being told, over and over again, that you are completely alone—while in reality, we are all connected. About the need for burning, searing love in an cold environment. About loving as an act of rebellion, an act of resistance.

The heart of Flying Horseman remains Bert Dockx, but the band’s lineup has evolved. The new rhythm section—drummer Louis Evrard (Pruillip, Ottla, Grid Ravage) and bassist Maximilian Dobbertin (Calicos, Frankie Fame)—brings a fresh and personal twist to the signature Flying Horseman sound: their own groove, intuition, sensibility, and soul. They take over from Alfredo Bravo and Mattias Cré, who played an essential role in shaping the band's musical DNA for many years. Their influence still resonates, while Flying Horseman continues to be the passion project of Loesje and Martha Maieu, who have been part of the band almost as long as its frontman. Their haunting vocals and atmospheric synths form a striking contrast with Dockx’s earthier singing and restless, fiery guitar work.

With Anaesthesia—recorded by Joris Caluwaerts and mixed by Yves De Mey—Flying Horseman once again leaves an indelible mark. The single Engines marks the beginning of a captivating journey, a shimmering light in dark times.
